OUR AGING PUZZLE

Branding: Professional & Personal - Create Your Narrative

Hello Colleagues and Friends!

What impression does your customers, associates, employees or peers have of you? Your response to this question shapes your professional / personal brand!

As a small-business owner or solo entrepreneur, it's important to be aware of your professional & personal brand. No matter how old you are, what position you're in, or what business you're involved in, we all need to understand the importance of branding. Our CEO, Corlette DeVeaux conducted a Professional Branding training workshop for the entire staff of Urban League of Palm Beach County. She discussed the significance of establishing and maintaining brand. She conveyed that every behavior contributed to your brand. Everyone needs to understand and promote the brand they create for themselves - "Me Inc.". Our behavior professionally and personally affects the brand that we represent for our company and ourselves. Professional behavior, attitude, attire and character all contribute to a company's brand and towards its success for the long term. Professional Branding is about you and the company you represent.

Whether you like it or not, we all have a personal brand. However, not everyone manages it professionally or strategically. No matter what kind of business or profession you have, it's important not to leave your personal brand to chance.

Be clear about who you are and what you have to offer the world. Create your brand and represent it in your actions. Let the world know what you excel in and, most importantly what is your brand (who you are). In the days of social media, it's more important than ever to manage what others feel and say about us. As an entrepreneur communicate your brand and create your corporate culture around your brand so your customers will know what to expect and support. A strong brand increases your customer base and longevity for success.

It was a privilege to train the staff at the Urban League of Palm Beach County. The training included real experiences, perspectives and engaging exercises. We applaud the Urban League for their investment in the Professional Branding of the organization and their staff.

Listen to all the positive feedback that we received about our training.

Oral Health and Your Overall Health

As we continue to celebrate National Healthy Aging Month. Let’s talk about - How our oral health is linked to our overall health. Maintaining oral health is an important part of healthy aging. Did you know that poor oral health can be associated with certain conditions. The Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention state that individuals with long-term illnesses like diabetes, heart diseases, arthritis, and lung disease may be more prone to getting periodontal disease (a gum and bone disease around the teeth).

As we get older, it is important to take care of our teeth and gums in order to keep these health issues from worsening. Also, keeping up with our oral hygiene ensures that we can still consume a wide range of food and can take pleasure in eating.

Here are couple oral healthy tips to keep in mind:

  • Prevention Still Matters

  • Take Care of Dentures and Partial Dentures

  • Certain Medications Affect Oral Health

  • Watch for Changes in Your Mouth

  • Keep Your Dental Appointments

Regular visits to the dentist, at least once a year, is essential for keeping oral health problems in check. It can be a challenge to go to the dentist if you are on Medicare or on a fixed income. Fortunately, there are safety net dental programs in your state that provide dental care to persons with limited dental insurance and for those with lower incomes.

Check with your state or local health department to learn about programs in your area. We also recommend visiting www.astdd.org.
